GENDERED MONEY: How Money Works Differently for Men & Women in Patriarchal-Capitalist Arrangements.

Image
📷: NAWAA. "As a woman, the system is actively designed to ensure that your money works less for you" Money is not gender neutral. It responds to one's gender! One's gender determines how money works for you as well as the value of money in ones hands! This is not conspiracy, neither is it an alarmist view. It us something that, as you continue to read, you'll realise you've encountered same yourself you without realising it! It has been studied by economists for years. Money, just like everything in a patriarchal set up is deeply, DEEPLY gendered. Money in the hands of men is different from money in the hands of women! The way money works for men is different from the way money works for women and it is important for you to know this or your financial freedom and property rights as a woman is not guaranteed! The Gender of finances. Some ways in which money works differently for men and women are? ✅1. Gendered billable hours: This is often times one of the fir...

WOMEN WHO TOIL: Unbelievable Stats & Notes on Women's Unpaid Labour.

Image
📷: Instagram. "By the time girls grow up, they are estimated to have provided 160 million more hours daily than boys in unpaid labour"- UNICEF. A woman who has no control over her labour is a woman who has no control of her body, autonomy, time & society. The discourse on women's liberation is viscerally incompletely, in fact, it is irrelevant without addressing issues of unpaid labour because it touches on her autonomy, body and time. People often relegate Gender Based Violence to acts of physical violence, so when I mention unpaid labour as violence against women, it often comes as suprise to some, others said it is not as serious as physical violence. One once told me feminism should not be brought into the home meaning feminism should be silent on issues of unpaid labour.  It is crystal clear that society has doggedly refused to admit the steep cost of unpaid labour on women. Society has relegated women to the background where they churn, toil and labour to kee...

Image
📷: SheResonance When rest becomes rebellion! An X user once said that we often talk about Santa Clause but not Santa's wife who must be doing all the gift wrapping.  While of course we know Santa is merely a tale, but this depicts the real situation of women- Wives who do the work and husbands who sit at the head of the table to do the toast, mothers who backed the turkey and fathers who sit at the head of the table to carve the cooked. Right after she labours, they swoop in like Santa to take the glory.  Santa clause is just every man at Christmas. It is not a story, it is a realistic depiction of women's underappreciated unpaid labour.  Women are the Santa's wives of Christmas, those who labour at the background, men are the Santa Clauses of Christmas, those who are flamboyantly pulled by reindeers and take all the glory.  Understanding the great cost of men's profession and love.  📷: SheResonance There is something we need to address and address and address...

WOMEN'S PROPERTY RIGHT IN NIGERIA: What You Must Know to Protect Yourself!

Image
So many Nigerian women I encounter during the course of divorce are grossly mistaken about what the law has to say about their property rights and the effect of this is that, they kept making COMPROMISE AGAINST INTEREST during the course of the marriage, thinking that the law protects them.  By the time the marriage has broken down, they discover too late because they've spent their youth labouring for nothing.  Some Nigerian women even think that after divorce you get 50% of his property. NO SISTER, YOU DON'T, that is the USA not a Nigerian. Upon divorce there's nothing like 50/50 property split in Nigeria. ❌❌❌ During divorce proceedings, there is something called SETTLEMENT Property. This is where the court divides your assets both joint and separate assets. To be entitled to any assets you must show that the asset is in your name or provide RECEIPT, HARD EVIDENCE of your financial contribution to the purchase of that asset! You see how that works??? What to do to inc...
